Tuesday August 11th: Publishers test their own versions of Prime Day

Prime Day on Amazon rival's holiday season sales for some brands. According to Digiday, Prime Day totals beat beat Black Friday and Cyber Monday last year.

But with Amazon postponing Prime Day because it's worried the coronavirus shopping spike will make it impossible to meet inventory and shipping requirements, smart publishers have spotted an opportunity.

StackCommerce, an ecommerce platform used by hundreds of media companies, is looking to create a sales event across its publishing partners’ commerce sites. The Vox's Strategist and Cosmopolitan are also looking at their own deal days.

The thinking is, if Amazon can manufacture a day to increase commerce, there’s no reason a collection of e-commerce companies and publishers can’t do the same. Watch this space.

eMarketer is reporting that B2B marketers are accelerate their transformation into digital - search, virtual event sponsorships, podcasts and spending on LinkedIn are replacing spending on on events and traditional channels.

Jimmy Lai, the founder of Hong Kong's second biggest newspaper, has been arrested. Chinese media described the pro-democracy publisher as "instigating hatred, spreading rumours and smearing Hong Kong authorities and the mainland for years".
