Newspapers are hurting, bleeding revenue amid the ongoing pandemic. But while legacy titles have had years to experiment and develop new revenue streams, the same cannot be true for those in developing countries. That makes them vulnerable to extinction, or being beholden to governments that bail them out. Either way, it means that the public will not receive the protection it needs. A sobering look at the global impact of Covid-19 on the media.

The New York Times Co warned of a steep fall in advertising sales in the current quarter after beating Wall Street's profit and revenue estimates on Wednesday, as it added more subscribers in a period dominated by heavy news coverage around the Covid-19 pandemic.

Spotify's Daniel Ek said he expects Apple Inc. to further open up its platform a year after the Stockholm-based music streaming company filed an antitrust complaint with the European Union. It effectively signals that Apple's strict control over content is relaxing a little.
