Facebook this week launched a new e-commerce service, primarily aimed at smaller businesses and brands, which allows them to sell directly from the Facebook platform. This is a really smart analysis by Charlotte McEleny that explores why it's not necessarily a threat to Amazon, and instead how Facebook are aiming to become the WeChat of the west. This could have an unexpected knock-on effect on publisher's own ecommerce efforts, but could also open alternative avenues to promote subscriptions. Early days, but expect this to rocket once Facebook have sorted out the complexities of processing payments through the platform.
